This training program marked ZOC’s first specialized training initiative for Mongolian ophthalmologists. The three participants — Dr. Tumenjargal Lkhagvatseren, Dr. Nansalmaa Gungaanyam, and Dr. Battuya Bazarragchaa — underwent an intensive two-week program. The International Medical Center of Ophthalmology, in collaboration with the Teaching Office and the Department of Refraction & Adolescent Myopia Prevention, designed a comprehensive curriculum. Having completed all training requirements and assessments, the doctors would return to Mongolia equipped with diagnostic and treatment techniques learned at ZOC, aiming to enhance ophthalmic healthcare services in their home country.

At the ceremony, Prof. Lin Haotian expressed his hope that the doctors would apply their acquired expertise to improve Mongolia’s ophthalmic capabilities, benefiting more patients. He noted that this initiative aligns with the World Health Organization’s call to improve the Effective Refractive Error Coverage (eREC) locally. Lin also warmly invited the doctors to return as ZOC’s first Mongolian alumni in November to participate in the Center’s 60th-anniversary celebrations.
During the symposium, the trainees introduced Mongolia’s cultural traditions and ophthalmic development history while sharing their training experiences. They described the program as highly enriching and praised ZOC for its advanced technology and warm hospitality. Prof. Yang Xiao fondly recalled the period of mutual learning and in-depth exchange, commending the trainees for their enthusiasm and professionalism.
