On the afternoon of May 12, 2025, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) held a certificate presentation ceremony for two medical professionals from the Maldives who completed their training in China. The event took place in Conference Room 1817 of the Clinical Building at ZOC's Zhujiang New Town premises.

Professor Lin Haotian, President of ZOC, attended the ceremony and presented completion certificates to the two trainees. Professor Liang Lingyi, Vice President of ZOC and Director of the Office for Blindness Prevention and Treatment, chaired the meeting.

This training program in China is a key component of the second phase of the China-Maldives Ophthalmology Center project. The two participating healthcare professionals – Aishath Nadhira and Nafeesa Abdul Latheef – were recommended by Hulhumalé Hospital in the Maldives. Since arriving in Guangzhou in February, the trainees underwent rotations in various departments including the Cataract Department and the Corneal Disease Department. Under the guidance of Professor Chen Weirong, a senior expert in international medical collaboration, and with meticulously arranged training plans from relevant departments, they have now successfully completed all training modules and passed their assessments. They are set to return to the Maldives, equipped with the advanced expertise gained at ZOC, to enhance ophthalmic medical services in the Indian Ocean island nation.

He commended the two graduates for demonstrating a high level of professionalism and their deep engagement in multidisciplinary clinical training, effectively building a bridge for cross-cultural communication and professional integration. Prof. Lin also expressed special thanks to the teaching team and supporting departments. Finally, he encouraged the trainees to apply their knowledge to serve patients, becoming envoys for China-Maldives medical cooperation and friendship between the two nations.

During the exchange session, the two Maldivian trainees fondly reflected on their training experience. They expressed deep admiration for the center's efficient clinical system, rigorous surgical practices, and the staff's profound respect for patients and dedication to professionalism. They pledged to leverage their learning to contribute to the development of eye health services in their home country.

Professor Chen Weirong, in her remarks, spoke highly of the trainees' performance during the program. She encouraged them to continue deepening their practice upon returning home, serving local patients, and ensuring the enduring legacy of China-Maldives friendship.
