ZOC Makes Group Presence at ARVO 2025 and Hosts Series of Events

From May 4 to May 8, 2025, faculty and students from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) attended the 2025 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, USA, and conducted a series of international exchange activities.

 

Over 80 faculty members, students, and alumni from ZOC participated in ARVO 2025, joining global ophthalmologists and vision scientists in this premier academic gathering. The center delivered 10 invited presentations and presented approximately 40 posters, showcasing cutting-edge research achievements in ophthalmology and vision science.

 

Additionally, researchers from other Chinese ophthalmic institutions delivered around 30 oral presentations and over 120 poster presentations at the meeting.

1. ZOC Scholars Shine on Global Stage

 

Prof. Lin Haotian (ZOC President), Dr. Wang Wei (Associate Chief Physician), and alumni Prof. He Mingguang and Prof. Chen Xiaolan (both from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) delivered invited keynote lectures, sparking extensive discussion among international peers. Young ZOC researchers, including PhDs and postdoctoral fellows Guo Dongwei, He Yunsi, Ma Runting, Tang Xianghua, Xu Zixuan, Yang Haohan, Yu Yinglin, and Zhu Xingfei, presented their work, demonstrating the academic vitality of ZOC’s emerging talents and enhancing global recognition of the center’s contributions.

Several ZOC delegates, including Chen Xiaolan, Ma Runting, Zhang Qi, Zhong Pingting, and Zhou Wenhui, received 2025 ARVO Foundation Travel Grants. He Yunsi, Liu Lixue, and Xu Zixuan were awarded travel grants by the Chinese Ophthalmological Society.

 

2. Innovative Booth Highlights ZOC’s Visionary Advancements

 

Following its debut last year, the ZOC exhibition booth returned to ARVO 2025, featuring the center’s milestones, honors, and scientific breakthroughs. Interactive displays showcased frontier innovations like the 5G-enabled mobile ophthalmic clinic, ophthalmic surgical robots, and the ChatZOC ophthalmic large language model, attracting significant engagement from global attendees. A dedicated "Global Talent Recruitment" zone drew strong interest from international scholars.

3. Global Gathering Celebrates ZOC’s Legacy and Partnerships

 

During ARVO 2025, ZOC hosted an alumni and international partners’ reception. Distinguished alumni and collaborators from world-leading institutions—including Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (USA), Moorfields Eye Hospital (UK), L V Prasad Eye Institute (India), Stanford University (USA), Johns Hopkins University (USA), UC San Francisco (USA), University of Cambridge (UK), National University of Singapore, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB)—gathered with ZOC representatives.

Marking ZOC’s 60th anniversary in 2025, Prof. Lin Haotian delivered a keynote address reviewing the center’s legacy, expressing gratitude for global support, and inviting attendees to the anniversary celebrations in November.

 

Alumni and partners—including Prof. Ying Han (UCSF), Prof. Krzysztof Palczewski (UC Irvine), Prof. Mingguang He and Prof. Chea Su Kee (PolyU), Prof. Daniel Ting (NUS), Prof. Taraprasad Das (LVPEI), Prof. Jost Jonas (Heidelberg University), Prof. Serge Resnikoff (UNSW), and Prof. Andrew Dick (UCL)—shared experiences working with ZOC, offered anniversary congratulations, and pledged continued collaboration to advance global eye health.
